a review on the electronic show on the 22nd of june.
Joiners 22/06/2010 Unicorn Kid Review Category: Music A different, atypical sound emerges from the Joiners on Tuesday as Unicorn kid headlines as part of his 2010 summer Uk tour. Supporting him at this show We're two DJ's; Dexter a sixteen year old producer from Southampton, and The Gingerbread Man, a 24 year old producer also from Southampton. Both Provided an excellent, energetic dance set with mix's that were absolutely mind blowing. The Show's support acts were very suitable and all of a similiar electronic and dance genre. The Main support were a band called Fly, Frankie, Fly who were also a local band. They were completly individual and are a very unique input to the electronic scene. Their fan base were completly up for it and the band ecouraged them to go completly mental. The Crowd reacted really enthusiasticlly to this quirky, upbeat, new brand of electronica and despite the band being unknown to some they recieved a positive reaction from the mass. Fly, Frankie, Fly were unncommon to the typical electronic band in many different ways and there were many aspects which persued this factor. For example, tribal dressing was a theme that stood out throughout the peformance and overall as a band made them original. They wore feathers in their hair and facepaint on their faces to present the tibal theme and they also made the audience feel involved by painting tribal patterns on the crowds faces aswell and refering to them as "part of their tribe" which made the audience even more enthusiastic. On the last song a wall of death was organised at the break of the song which was completly unexcpeccted at an electronic show however the crowd were overwhelmingly enthusiastic towards this and the atmosphere was insane. The crowd did not stop for any more than a minute during the breaks between songs, manic. The Band covered The Killers Mr Brightside and they completly made it their own, they added their own twist to the song adding in enticing electronic synth and a mix of different vocal sounds. During the cover they encouraged the crowd to join in and really involved them with the whole show. It was really mental and all the support acts really got the crowd heated up for the headline act. The moment the crowd had all been waiting for. Unicorn Kid takes to stage and plays the mind-blowing chiptune beats that fill the venue. The floor shakes from the simaltaneous energetic jumping from the audience. Unicorn Kid performed a strong, energetic peformance that can only be admired. Due to sound faults the sound cut of a few times before it was permanantly fixed however this did not stop him in the meantime. Truly inspirational. The passion for his music was evident in his eyes as he was playing and he seemed to love every minute of it. He seemed as if he was born to perform and he looked really confident throughout his performance despite the sound faults. The audience reacted mainly positively to the faults and they chanted his name repetitively which shows that he is well respected and well loved by all his fans. His music was all very upbeat and happy which made the overall mood of the performance positive. The electronic music scene is highly underated and it is believed that acts such as Unicorn Kid are emphasising the greatness of the genre and how it can effect how we feel just as much as lyrical ballads do. At this point there was not one member of the crowd who was not sweating, the atmosphere was unreal and due to the size of the venue it was a very personal, inclusive peformance. Unicorn Kid prooved that electronic music is not dead just by peforming with such energy and love for what he is doing, it showed that the electronic music scene is growing and gradually becoming better and with acts such as Unicorn Kid it will be a genre worth living. A role model for any artist or band that produces electronic or dance music. Aswell as his music being insane, he also had a lovely warm personality which made the audience feel more comfortable in his presence, well he's no Ian Watkins thats for sure. Who knows with this kid's talent he could be playing wembley or headlining the biggest festivals in a few years time if he keeps at it.
