Inme/Broken Links/This Manhattan/City Torn

Joiners Arms, Southampton 18th August 2010 After a triumphant performance at this years Sonisphere Festival, Inme play a special 'one off' show at the infamous Joiners Arms in Southampton, there is a full supporting line up from three top notable local acts who all aim to survive playing in a venue which tonight which unusually resembles the temperature of a sauna. The first of these is Basingstoke band 'City Torn' who take to the stage at 8pm to a very full venue which is almost unheard of at such an early time, Sassy lead vocalist Kirsty does her best to get the home crowd on her side with some lively banter including some of the audience getting the band's name wrong instead of 'City Torn' they thought they were called 'Gay Porn' . The music was nonsense hard hitting twin guitar metal backed by Kirsty's vocals, with the impressive 'Make Me' and 'Fight Fight' getting a positive reaction from the Southampton audience. 'This Manhatten' who are based here is Southampton are next up and give everybody good reason to start dancing, their punk rock influenced sound rebounds well around the venue. Lead vocalist Matthew Clark openly admits that they have absolutely nothing to sell unlike allot of bands and that their website is based on the rather old School 'Myspace', none of this really mattered as everybody seemed to appreciated the short set including the 'This Time We Will Be Hero's which slowed down the pace a little and showed some nice versatility within the band. Three piece experimental rock band from Eastleigh 'Broken Links' showed lots of originality within their set with lots of guitar and vocals effects with lead singer Mark Lawrence using dual microphones which all certainly generated some excitement in the audience. Their guitar sound shaping Muse influenced style sound was very apparent on numbers 'Shelter Your Loss' and last number the epic 'Within Isolation' which got much of the audience moving around despite the intense heat. During the break before Inme arrived on stage some 'System Of a Down' numbers were played over the P.A. which certainly helping in building the atmosphere for the main attraction. As Inme took to the stage the capacity crowd surged forward and the band launched into 'Nova Amada' from the last album 'Hearld Moth', which caused total chaos throughout the whole of the dance floor with everybody dancing in difference directions. The place was unusually very hot almost stifling at times and despite requests from the band to open the fire doors to let in some air, which were to no avail and nothing was done, due to the sound proofing of the venue as not to disturb the neighbours in the surrounding area. The conditions getting worse as the set went on bass player Greg had to climb down off the stage and go outside for air, followed by his brother Dave who apparantly was sick outside. The crowd go a little impatient waiting for them to return not quite knowing what was happening, both brothers returned to the stage promptly apologised and very professionally carried on. The set was cut short by a few numbers as it was apparant that the heat had really effected them, despite this the last four songs in the set were belted out in true Inme style with the audience very appreciative that the band carried on. Inme will be back in November and December with 'Phonenix' a best of compilation and a tour where they will perform a complete album from their back catalogue each night.
